James Jandak Wood grew up in New England during the era of ‘Outside Providence’, and coincidentally lived just outside Providence. After running track and cross-country at Villanova University (and attending classes occasionally), he wandered out into the world. In 2004, after an epiphanic episode in the rainforest (yes, there were ‘teaching plants’), James embarked on a film career. Attending the Film Arts Institute and the Bay Area Video Coalition to learn film making, and then conversing with other filmmakers and hanging around film production sets, James wrote and directed Crude Impact which was screened in over thirty film festivals, won eight awards, was broadcast in many countries on television and has been translated into five other languages.
Transitioning to narrative film, James attended Oxford University Master’s English summer program to study both Shakespeare and modern literature. He then attended the Writer’s Retreat Workshop – all to better understand storytelling. Subsequently, James wrote and directed ‘Life After Dogma’, a short fiction film. He also collaborated with Dionisio Ceballos on a short animated film, entitled ‘Three Ring’. James is currently in post production on a short documentary he directed about the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra. |
